10 Fun Facts about color history you didn’t know… until now

❤️ Red pigment was once as expensive as gold leaf. Shades of red (crimson, carmine, red lead, cadmium red, etc.) were derived from insects, mercury sulfide, and tree sap. 💗 Pink wasn’t culturally assigned as a gendered color until 1950s, and not used as a gender identifier for baby girls until the 1980s. 🧡 Orange pigment was popularized by impressionists like Van Gogh & Toulouse-LauTrec who looked East at (buddhism, confucianism, etc) for their saffron colored robes to symbolize perfection. 💛 Since the Egyptians, yellow has been used to characterize imperishable, eternal, & indestructible. While they ascribed yellow to be feminine, Chinese culture assigns yellow the active and creative masculine, the Yang principle. 💚 Green symbolizes renewal but green pigments were difficult to come by for most of human history. The ones that did exist were highly toxic, through the 1960s. 💙 French Artist Yves Klein owns the trademark of a tone of ultramarine blue called International Klein Blue (IKB) and went on to paint 200+ monochrome canvases, sculptures and people in his color from 1947-57. 💜 For the whole of human history, the color purple has been associated with royalty. Basic supply and demand at play, rare purple dyes made purple clothing so expensive, only royalty and nobility could afford it. 🖤 The little black dress, made popular by Coco Chanel in 1927, became a wardrobe staple that’s responsible for our reassignment of meaning: from mourning, serious, and evil to chic, luxurious, and refined. 🤎 Brown is one of the most common colors on Earth, making it psychologically soothing for our eyes and communicating a rooted, familial feeling. 🤍 White is used to symbolize purity, innocence & divinity. The universal color for both men & women’s underwear & of sheets since the 18th and 19th centuries, it soon became culturally unthinkable to have sheets, socks, or underwear of any other color. Washing in boiling water causes colors to fade & white feels cleanest after many washes. Need help to choose colors for your project? Contact me and we will do it together!

Investing in MURALS is investing in the future.

One of the major concerns of business owners is the cost of a mural. How much do you need to invest, and will it be worth it? Considering the cost-benefit principle, murals give more than what you pay for the cost. In the short-run, you will see increased foot traffic through your door because of this advertising technique. In effect, customers who already know your business can be your loyal customers making your business stand out even in the long-run. Muras generate social media attention and can be used as a marketing tool to interact with customers and create talking points. Posting pictures of your products or happy clients in front of your mural is a great way you can expand your online presence. Mural’s maintenance does not require a huge amount of money, unlike when you are using vinyl, tarps or signages that can easily deteriorate. Aside from boosting your business, you are also helping local painters or artists showcase their skills. Hiring local talents helps the community which says a lot about your business values. Murals not only help the business build its identity but also promote specific advocacy or a message allowing customers, employees, and more people to be aware of what the company is all about and what are its core principles. You can get limitless opportunities just by choosing murals as your next advertising idea. Keep in mind that this form of expression is not only for aesthetic purposes. More than that, you are inclined to let people perceive your real message. When deciding what design you would want to have on your walls, consider the following:         Think of your organization’s mission and vision.         Think about where you want to see your business in the long-run. In that way, your customers will remember not only your brand but what you were trying to tell with it. One of the first steps to making a successful name for yourself in the market starts from getting enough attention. That is how murals will enter the picture. Whether your business has long existed or is new in the industry, you need a distinctive way to ensure that people will recognize your brand and a mural will definitely help with it. If you are ready for your very own mural, it’s time to give me a call!
